Starting with a suit, or lack thereof. . .
In 2006 Heikal Gani was searching for his first suit. An undergraduate student at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, Heikal was about to attend a conference and needed to look sharp, on a budget. It wasn't long before he had exhausted his options and realized he wasn't alone in this frustrating and discouraging shopping experience. There had to be a way to find a fine quality suit with a modern cut at an affordable price that actually fits. So with the partnership of fellow student and best friend, Kyle Vucko, the two twenty-somethings put their studies on hold and moved to Shanghai, China, a vibrant, cosmopolitan city steeped in the tradition of master tailoring. Eight months later in September 2007, with Kyle, Chief Executive Officer, running the business from Canada and Heikal, Chief Creative Officer, leading design and production in China, Indochino was born.
Today, with offices in both Vancouver and Shanghai and having grown from one tailor to a team of master tailors, cutters and seamstresses 50-strong, Indochino has become the largest online retailer of custom suits in the world.
