Along with the camel overcoat, the khaki trench coat is one of the classic coats every guy should own. Simple, timeless, and versatile, you can't go wrong any time of year. It can be worn many ways, but we recommend the following: over a dark suit; with jeans and a bright colored shirt; dress pants and white dress shirt. The key is to get this jacket cut a bit on the slimmer side. It may restrict motion a bit when you wear a full suit underneath, but will look infinitely better. And unless you plan on playing some touch football on your walk to work, you won't even notice.
Any of the classic solid coloured suits (charcoal, navy, black) will look good underneath a khaki trench coat.
Any dark suit will work well under a classic khaki trench coat, including suits with stripes.
