DREW GREEN TO ESTABLISH UBC ATHLETIC AWARD TO SUPPORT STUDENT-ATHLETES

CEO of INDOCHINO Pledges Significant Five-Year Personal Donation to Provide UBC Student- Athletes From His Hometown of Scarborough the Ability to Attend UBC to play Football and Basketball

Vancouver, BC — Drew Green, CEO of INDOCHINO, will make a personal donation to the University of British Columbia to establish a new annual award.
The Drew Green Award will support UBC Thunderbird Football and Men’s and Women’s

Basketball student-athletes. The intent of The Drew Green Award is to provide financial assistance to multiple student-athletes each year from Drew’s hometown of Scarborough, Ontario, so they can attend UBC.

“I am incredibly proud of my Scarborough roots and it’s time for me to give something back to the community that made me who I am today,” said Drew Green, President & CEO of INDOCHINO. “Playing varsity basketball growing up taught me that if you believe in yourself and put in the hard work, you can do anything you set your mind to. My intention with this award is to help instill this mantra in student-athletes from my hometown and inspire more young people to pursue their dreams, at the of the world’s most incredible university, in one of the world’s most inspirational cities.”

In addition, INDOCHINO will provide a portion of revenue from products sold back to the varsity program. Money generated will be put back into the award and used to support UBC Athletics.

“UBC Athletics and UBC Football creates opportunities for young men and women to become leaders on and off the field,” said Blake Nill, Head Coach – Football, UBC Thunderbirds.

“Support from leaders like Drew helps us support our student-athletes and their pursuit of excellence. As a former athlete Drew understands the values that are taught through sport and his gift will ensure that we can continue to provide opportunities for our student-athletes to pursue sport while at UBC.“

The UBC Thunderbirds varsity program consists of 25 teams in 13 sports, with affiliations in two inter-university leagues. Historically, UBC boasts the most successful program in U Sports (CIS), as Thunderbird teams have won over 100 U Sports national championships to date, adding eight banners in the U.S.-based National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). UBC has also produced countless international competitors and medalists, including 231 Olympians, and hundreds of student-athletes who have been drafted into professional leagues around the world.
